2008-2009 Season

Message from Paul C. Howell, President of the CAMMAC Montréal Region

Whether you are an amateur musician or singer at any level, a music teacher, a student, a retired professional, a person who loves music of any kind, a prospective sponsor or a person who is merely curious about music, welcome to CAMMAC.

CAMMAC (Canadian Amateur Musicians - Musiciens Amateurs du Canada) has been staging events at low cost, sometimes for free, where musicians, including singers, can make music together. CAMMAC is in its 56th year of operation.

The CAMMAC Montréal Region has been active since the beginning. There are nearly 900 CAMMAC Montréal members, and non-members are welcome to participate in CAMMAC events.

In the past season, 2007-2008, there were symphony concerts, chamber orchestra concerts, sight readings and workshops. Each of these events gets the players inside the great music, and however well an individual player may meet the challenges, he or she sees progress in the ensemble, and the experience is uplifting. One highlight last year for me was the Symphony Orchestra’s rendition of Beethoven’s eighth symphony. The orchestra also performed Dvorak’s eighth splendidly, both under the direction of Jean-Pascal Hamelin. This season the orchestra will be performing works by Wagner, Schubert and Borodin; join us

Let us hear your ideas. If you’re interested participating, or in the management of this institution, please give me a call at 514-344-9244, e-mail . The opportunities before us are large.

Paul C. Howell
